Hewlett Packard iPAQ hx2490 fix

'Huston we have a problem'... famous words that Hewlett Packard are not keen to say at the moment. The fact is though Hewlett Packard's work horse PDA the iPAQ hx2490 is in need of some fixes. There have been a series of issues with this model including loss of power when memory cards are left in and batteries overheating.
But all is not lost, the fixes are available and they seem to be working well, we have now run the fixes on a number of hx2490's and they have all been performing well with no sign of the previous headaces. The machine is an excellent model for the price it is a shame that this issue has not been resolved earlier.
By the way you don't have to be a techno junkie to be able to do the fix just set aside around about 15 minutes and run through the process below.
The two main Fixes are at:

You will also need to ensure that you have the latest version of Active Sync which is 4.2 or at least 4.1, check if 4.1 shipped with your device. if you don't get it first at:
NOTE: 1. Please back up the data on the iPAQ before performing the above updates as they would erase all the information on the iPAQ, back to factory settings, as you bought it.
2. Please perform the updates using ActiveSync. The update wouldn’t run unless an ActiveSync relationship is established.
3. Please ensure that there is continuous power supply to both the iPAQ and the Computer.
4. Please don’t disconnect the iPAQ from the Synchronization cable till the update completes, this also means don't take the device out of the cradle or detach from syncing even while a reboot on the PDA is happening, which will happen more than once.
5. Please follow the instructions given on the above websites before performing the updates.

Additionally another update that should be completed after the others is a .net update available at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0c1b0a88-59e2-4eba-a70e-4cd851c5fcc4&DisplayLang=en

Why have this Blog?

This blog has been set up to provide a personal selection of links to useful m-learning projects, new technologies, creative learning ideas and future thoughts. It will be running until the new Australian Mobile Learning Network site is launched in August 2006.

It is by no means the be all and end all of material on m-learning technologies, there are a lot of great people with their own sites, some of whom I will provide links to. But overall what I have included I find interesting and often this material has assisted me in my work, I hope it can be of use to you.

Please use the links above and in the side menu area to move to areas of interest

This site is constantly evolving and I will add to it as often as I can. If you wish me to add links or other detail please send me the comment or feedback at:
